Who we are
Takkato is made by Appcorn Technologies, Egypt ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Takkato apps for iOS and Android and the website takkato.app. For any privacy question or request, email support@takkato.app.
What we collect
When you sign in
- From Google or Apple: an account identifier, your email address (Apple may give us a private relay address), and the name you allow them to share. We never see your Google or Apple password.
What you add to Takkato
- Your profile: username, display name, bio, profile photo, country, app language and preferred form of address (used to write Arabic text to you correctly).
- Recipes you publish or save as drafts, with their photos, videos, ingredients and steps.
- Comments, likes, saves, follows, blocks and reports.
- Your pantry (ingredients you have at home), if you use "What to cook".
Competitions
- Your entries, your acceptance of the competition rules, and the time and session of each photo or video taken in the Takkato competition camera.
- Your votes. To stop vote fraud we also record an app install identifier and a scrambled (hashed) form of the network you voted from. We never store your full IP address with your vote.
- If you win a prize: your full name, phone number and delivery address. Only our team can see these, and they're used only to deliver the prize.
Automatically
- Device and app information: device model, operating system, app version, language, and a push notification token.
- Technical logs: IP address, request times and errors, used to keep the service secure and working and to limit abuse.
- Crash reports, through Firebase Crashlytics.
- Photo metadata (such as camera model and the time a photo was taken) and a fingerprint of each photo, used to detect photos copied from the internet or from other chefs.
How we use it
- To run Takkato: your account, feeds, search, notifications, chef levels, badges and leaderboards.
- To run competitions fairly: checking eligibility, reviewing entries, counting votes, detecting fraud, and delivering prizes.
- To keep the community safe: moderating content, handling reports, and stopping spam and abuse.
- To fix problems and improve the app.
- To suggest ingredient substitutions: when you ask, the names of the ingredients and the recipe are sent to our AI provider to generate suggestions. Your name and account details are not sent.
- To show ads (see below).
We process your data to provide the service you asked for, to meet our legal obligations, for our legitimate interests in keeping Takkato safe and working, and, where the law requires it (for example for personalised ads), with your consent.
Ads
Takkato is free and shows ads through Google AdMob. Google may use device identifiers and similar technologies to show and measure ads. Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent first, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy choices. On iOS, we don't use your advertising identifier unless you allow tracking.
Who we share it with
What you publish (your profile, recipes, comments and competition entries) is public to other Takkato users and can be shared by link. We share personal data only with service providers who process it for us under contract:
| Provider | What for |
|---|---|
| Oracle Cloud, DigitalOcean | Servers and database (Frankfurt, Germany) |
| Cloudflare | Storing and delivering photos and videos, and DNS |
| Google (Firebase, AdMob, Google Sign-In) | Push notifications, crash reports, ads, sign-in |
| Apple (Sign in with Apple) | Sign-in |
| Anthropic | Ingredient substitution suggestions |
| Sentry | Server error monitoring |
We may also disclose data when the law requires it, to protect people's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of our business (in which case this policy keeps applying). We don't sell your personal data.
Where your data is stored
Our servers are in the European Union (Germany). Some providers above process data in other countries, including the United States. When data leaves your country, we rely on the providers' contractual and security safeguards.
How long we keep it
- Your account data: until you delete your account.
- Prize delivery details: deleted 90 days after the prize is delivered, or when you delete your account.
- Technical logs: kept for a short time, normally no more than 30 days.
- Backups: copies are overwritten within 30 days.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account. See how to delete your account for what is removed and what is kept.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under Egypt's Personal Data Protection Law), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your data, to object to or restrict some processing, and to withdraw consent. Most of this you can do in the app. For anything else, email support@takkato.app. We answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Takkato is not for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, and restricted admin access. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will tell you if a breach affects you, as the law requires.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. For important changes, we'll also tell you in the app.
